Abstract:

Model driven engineering (MDE) is based on graphical programming languages that are founded on sound mathematical semantics. MDE is particularly suited for the design of complex systems with safety concerns. In this talk I will present a model driven approach for designing complex control systems. We use the IEC61499 standard and associated synchronous semantics to demostate the design flow. Subsequently, I will apply the proposed approach to illustrate the design of airport BHS. Finally, we examine a new algorithm for efficient traffic flow called virtual traffic lights (VTL)and illustrate how safety issues in VTL can be addressed using the proposed approach.
