The Always Best Connected (ABC) Service as an Infrastructure for Disaster Recovery System

Abstract:

With today's widespread use of WLAN and the existing 3G cellular services, it is possible to nearly always be connected to the Internet with mobile devices (PDAs, laptops). However, in most cases, switching between different access networks is not done without user interaction and usually not with maintained sessions. The ABC service supports the user by automatically handling selection of access network based on available network and user preferences.
The talk will present the experimental ABC test-bed that is deployed on the UCSD campus and how the concept is extended for the Emergency Response Systems.

About The Speaker:

Rajesh Mishra has spent over 13 years driving innovations in the areas of data networking and wireless technologies. He is currently a Principle Researcher at Calit2 division of UCSD focusing on Disaster Recovery Systems. Prior to this, he worked at Ericsson Research primarily focusing on IP networks and issues relating to integration of multiple access technologies, including CDMA, GPRS and WLAN.
