Abstract
This talk will address some of the critical challenges in the following areas of engineering Enterprise IT solutions: a) Enterprise Application Integration, b) Semantic Inter-operability and c) Meeting non-functional requirements Enterprises are found to often land-up with a set of heterogeneous application systems for various reasons, such as, including but not limited to, inorganic growth due to mergers and acquisitions, availability of very specialized but heterogeneous set of applications from a host of vendors that cater to specific needs of an enterprise, etc. But enterprises need to integrate these disparate applications in order to get comprehensive and consolidated management reports. One of the biggest challenges in this integration process is the problem of semantic inter-operability and the need to mediate services and data across these diverse applications. Another concurrent challenge is the ability of the enterprises to come up with an enterprise architecture that not only resolves the integration and mediation challenges but also meets the non-functional requirements. A solution, though functionally satisfactory, is considered useless by the end-users, if it does not meet the non-functional requirements such as the demands on performance, scalability, availability, etc. This talk also presents some of the emerging trends in addressing the above mentioned challenges.
