Abstract
Footprint of IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) based wireless networks is growing rapidly. In the last four years, technical innovations and market forces have led to proliferation and commoditization of Wi-Fi technology. This trend is giving rise to new R&D challenges and business opportunities. I'll describe three key challenges of deploying Wi-Fi in enterprises: namely security, visualization, and network monitoring. Many research problems underlying these challenges are still open. It is not surprising that satisfactory solutions are not yet available in the market. For the past one year, a team of 28 engineers in Pune has been working tirelessly on building a comprehensive and the most sophisticated solution for the above problem. If time permits, I'll share with you my experiences, excitement & challenges of launching a classical silicon valley style startup in India.
