Tap alpha is an app designed for children with special needs, to learn about the English alphabets. It is an app which would facilitate the user to learn to identify each alphabet, and to understand the sequence of the alphabets. It can be used as an educational tool to assess the current level of alphabet knowledge of the user.
What is learnt from the app?
The user will learn the sequence of the Upper case alphabets, lower case alphabets and letter recognition.
The user will also learn pronunciation of the alphabets in simple, clear, understandable way.
Levels in the game
In Tap Alpha app, there are 3 levels of playing this educational app:
First levelThe children have learnt to identify the alphabets, after which the sequencing of the alphabets can be made to practice using the first level. Hence in the easy level they just have to tap the alphabets in the correct sequence.
Second levelThe association of the sound of the letter and identifying that particular letter. So the user has to press the correct letter called out in this level. This level will teach to wait for the sound and then the next action required is to identify one letter from a group of other alphabets.
Third levelThe child has understood the sequence and then the sound and letter association through repeated practice. In this level the alphabets are given in a jumbled way, and the user should try to arrange them back in the proper sequence.
This app can also be used as a tool for doing the assessment of the children and to find out their current level of functioning about their alphabetic knowledge.
Special and unique feature of the app
Every response of the child is being recorded in a tabular column, through which the special educator or parent can analyse about the following details:
The alphabet that was asked to point out and the response given by the user.
The duration of time taken by the user to complete one screen.
The specific issue that the user is facing in identifying or recalling a particular alphabet.
The total number of mistakes that are committed at every level of the app.
