Title: Implementation and Evaluation of a MAC scheduling algorithm for IEEE 802.16 WirelessMAN

Abstract: IEEE 802.16 Broadband wireless access (BWA) is becoming the most popular way for wireless communication because of its advantages. These advantages includes variable and high data rate, last mile wireless access, point to multipoint communication, large frequency range and QoS for various types of applications. Despite of the above advantages, IEEE 802.16 WirelessMAN lacks in scheduling algorithm for uplink as well as downlink direction. We evaluate Weighted Fair Queue (WFQ) based scheduling algorithm for IEEE 802.16 WirelessMAN uplink and downlink direction. Our scheduling algorithm accommodate parameters like priority, minimum required/reserved bandwidth, queue length at link layer for various applications. Our scheduling algorithms aims to provide delay bound for real time application and bandwidth utilization for high data traffic applications. We simulate all different kind of traffic like VoIP, Video, FTP and Telnet to evaluate our algorithm. We will present the simulation results for many possible scenarios of different applications. We use ns-2 for our simulation. Our IEEE 802.16 ns-2 extension is free and open source and can be access from [].
