Minutes of Siemens –
UCB Workshop
06/12/2001,
Siemens, Munich
Participants:
Andreas Ebert, Siemens
Martin Gitsels, Siemens
Lars Mehrmann, Siemens
Bhaskaran Raman, UCB
Björn Schiemann, Siemens
Jimmy Shih, UCB
Jochen Sauter, Siemens
Service Composition:
- Jochen presented scenarios and research issues identified by
Siemens.
- Bhaskar presented UCB work on service composition (scenarios,
requirements and first results).
- We start the cooperation by integrating a text-to-speech service
from UCB with an e-mail service from Siemens to provide email access from
cell phones for corporate users. Next steps are:
- Setting up a test bed at UCB and Siemens sites
- Integrate UCB and Siemens services
- Conduct trials to analyze performance/fault tolerance
- After this we will try to identify further issues for
collaboration.
Value-based/Congestion-based Pricing:
- Björn presented scenarios and requirements for pricing models
based on content (not on airtime or bandwidth) on behalf of Konstantin.
- Jimmy presented UCB work on congestion pricing.
- Actual topics for collaboration have to be further investigated.
Björn and Konstantin will send an email with possible topics to Jimmy.
There are also two other PhD students at UCB who work in related fields
and might participate in the collaboration.
Context Awareness:
- Lars presented scenarios and requirements for security and user
acceptance in context-aware systems.
- It is not yet clear who at UCB could contribute to this topic.
Bhaskar/Jimmy will speak with Prof. Katz/Joseph to find out about possible
candidates.
City on Air:
- Andread presented the City on Air system which is a Web-based
location-aware tourist guide application.
- There is interest in deploying this system at UCB campus and
conduct field trials among the students. There are still open technical
and licensing issues. Siemens has to make a decision if a deployment would
be feasible.
