How to reach IIT Kanpur

International Travel

The Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi is a convenient point of entry for arriving at Kanpur. The IGI airport at Delhi is served by most major airlines. The international terminal at the IGI airport is called Terminal 3 (T3 in short).


Domestic Travel


Connecting Flight at Delhi Airport

Those of you connecting to a domestic flight from Delhi airport, most flights now operate from the same terminal (T3), so you may not have to change the airport. But if your domestic flight leaves from T1 (please check), you need to avail the airport's shuttle bus to transfer or a taxi transfer. Please note that you need to collect your checked-in baggage at the international terminal (T3) and rebook at the domestic terminal (whether T3 or T1).


Taxi Service at Terminal 3

You can also take a taxi to go to Terminal 1 or to any other destination in New Delhi, including the New Delhi Railway Station. It is recommended to avail of a pre-paid taxi service that is monitored by the Delhi police to avoid overcharging of passengers. Pre-paid taxi booths are immediately outside the exit, and the directions are clearly marked. Please allow for 45 minutes to travel between Terminals 90 minutes to travel to the New Delhi Railway Station.


Delhi Metro Airport Express Line at Terminal 3

To connect to the New Delhi railway station from Terminal 3, you can also use Airport Express service of Delhi Metro. The directions to the metro station are cleary marked at the airport exit. The tickets can bought at the metro station itself. The details of the service can be found at their website. Note that the service does not run during nights (11 PM to 5 AM).


Arrival at Lucknow Airport (LKO)

On arrival, kindly collect your baggage and exit the airport (there is only one exit). You can easily spot the pre-paid taxi booth, standing at the exit gate. A taxi to IIT Kanpur will cost about Rs. 1700. The travel time is approximately 2.5 hours.


Arrival at Kanpur Airport (KNU)

On arrival, kindly collect your baggage and exit the airport. While private taxis can be hired from outside the airport, sometimes it is difficult to get one. It is advisable to have it arranged prior to the travel. A taxi to IIT Kanpur will cost about Rs. 500. The travel time is approximately one hour.


Arrival at Kanpur Railway Station (CNB)

On arrival, kindly exit the station from Platform No. 1. Private taxis can easily be hired from outside platform 1. A taxi to IIT Kanpur will cost about Rs. 300. The travel time is approximately 40 min.
